Everyday Item

I’ve walked past this fire hydrant many times on the way to work, and always found it interesting, because of its texture and symmetry. I took this picture with a Pentax ME Super 35mm SLR and 50mm f2 lens, a combo I got on eBay for not much more than the price of a couple of disposable cameras! It is the beauty in my recent Beauty and the Beast post. It’s a lovely camera to hold and use.

  1. I gave up film about ten years ago and the thing I miss most in digital is grain not noise. I am trying Silverfx pro at the moment on a 15 day trail it could be part of the answer.

I admire your patience with film – Dev / stop / fix / dry then contact print the strips of film, mark up the contacts, choose the neg, test strips, work out a dodge & burn plan and hey after an hour or three you might have a good print thats dry the next day.

Digitally it takes the same knowledge and intuition to make an exhibition quality print – its not quicker cheaper or easier though as the prophet said.
