Of of the joys that is unique to film photography is developing a roll of film and being surprised at what was on it :-). Earier this week I developed a roll of 35mm Kentmere 400, expecting more Guelph or Alberta images, and it turned out to be a roll from out Scotland trip that I had overlooked. Taken with my Voigtlander Bessa R and 15mm/4.5 Extreme Wide-Angle Super -Heliar at the Edinburgh Castle, very happy with the sense of movement.
While one can get caught up in the vastness of many scenes in Scotland, it is also worthwhile getting up close, as in these moss covered paleolithic building stones.

The Light in the Princes Street Garden at around 7 pm in June is lovely; the low angle of the sun makes for some great shadows!

This post marks the 750th entry in my photography blog, and three-quarters of the way to one thousand has a nice, significant sounding number to it. While I on occasion may wistfully dream of more traffic to my blog, I immediately rebuke myself; it’s not the most important thing. It’s about creating a body of work that I can very occasionally feel proud of (although I’m always only one bad roll of film away from scorning myself as a photographer but that’s another issue.)
Today’s image was taken at the Ring of Brodgar, a stone circle located in the Orkney islands in Scotland. Older than Stonehenge, this place makes you think about time and permanence.

The lower angle of the sun lent a certain starkness to the light and shadows of the streets of Edinburgh, and I like what it did to the architecture

Back to the digital today, and another image where I created a faux-infrared effect in post, with Lightroom and Nik Efex.
As part of our recent trip to Scotland we spent a day in Glasgow, and the city looked more interesting than I expected! We had a couple of hours at an art gallery, whose exterior I found quite interesting.
