Four of Me

There is an interesting reflective wall inside the Coxwell subway station here in Toronto. I positioned myself to appear four times in one image, due to the distortions.

Storefront Reflections

I went downtown here in Toronto early yesterday morning; it was on the chilly side. This image of a storefront on Yonge street, filled with reflections as well turned out to be my favourite. I like the double exposure feel.

Reflections

I was downtown here in Toronto yesterday for the Classic Camera Revival Podcast 10 year anniversary photo walk. I was shooting again with my vintage Soviet-era Industar 61 L/D 55mm f/2.8 lens. I love how this lens is very sharp, but still renders in a pleasing way. This scene of reflections caught my eye.

Reflections

I do like reflections. Both images taken using my Olympus XA 35mm rangefinder camera, on Bergger BRF 400+ film (gifted from my photographer friend Bill Smith)

Pedestrians Under Glass

Every now and then it’s fun to throw an iPhone photo into the mix. I took this image on the way to a meeting in downtown Toronto yesterday, timing it to get the pedestrian framed in the reflection in the building.

Mirror, Mirror

If you stand say five feet away from a mirror and focus on your reflection with a  manual focus the lens will focus not to a distance of five feet, but rather 10 feet. Even though the mirror is a flat two-dimensional surface, optically the virtual space behind the mirror must be accounted for. I remember being amazed when I learned this fact many years ago. Mirrors have always seemed otherworldly to me.

This image is a reflection in a polished metal sculpture in downtown Toronto, and is a heavy crop from a much large frame. For me it still has the magic of a mirror though.
