Postcard From the Dystopia

I love the Beaches District in Toronto; I love Bluffers Park. Then there is Sugar Beach: a sad little boxed in spot, with a great view of a factory, and no shortage of “No Swimming signs.” I’ve shot there a few times as I find it fascinating, at the same time it repulses me.

Another image from my extended photo walk this past weekend. The camera (Nikon F, late 60’s/early 70’s) was old. The lens (24mm Nikkor wide-angle, mid-late 60’s) was old. The film was some Kodak Max ISO 400, a number of years past its expiration date. (We won’t even mention the photographer!). The building is old. Put all this oldness together, and I like the result. 🙂

I was out recently in downtown Toronto with my Nikon F 35mm SLR, with a 105mm.f2.5 lens attached. This lens is a classic, and is certainly one of my favourites. I was drawn to take this image by the gleaming metal, surrounded by salt and snow.

Sneaking a Smoke

As an ex-smoker I have to feel some sympathy for people who still smoke. I took this picture yesterday in downtown Toronto outside the Eaton Centre. Was he hiding from the wind, or the no smoking sign he was so close to?
