It’s a Wonderful Life
Last night I shot a dress rehearsal of “It’s a Wonderful Life“: a staged radio play based on the timeless movie of the same name, being staged by Toronto’s Alexander Showcase Theatre. At first glance, the concept may sound odd: a staged radio play? You’d be surprised just how visually appealing this production is! The image below is of Toronto actor and artist Sharon Zehavi, and is indicative of her positive energy throughout the play.

Eyes
On the subway to work this morning, the intensity of this man’s expression caught my attention; he spent the whole time whispering to himself under his breath.
Face as Biography
I love looking at the people on the TTC (and since I have a one hour plus commute to work each day, I have plenty of time to look!).
Today’s image was taken on Sunday morning on the TTC. It’s been awhile since I have seen so much of the pain and weariness that life holds for some people etched on a person’s face.
Silver Lining
It was a very grey, very dull day yesterday, but all that meant for me was that the light coming through the window for a shoot with model “K” was fantastic. I shot with three cameras: my Mamiya Universal Press (with Polaroid instant back), Â my Mamiya RZ67 medium format, and a few on my Nikon D90 DSLR. The image below is one of the instant pictures taken with the Universal Press.

Beauty and the Beast, Part II
Today’s image in an instant print (of Model Justine from the recent High Park shoot) shot with a recent acquisition — a Mamiya Universal Press Camera. This is another big beast of a camera, and I got it mainly because it came with a Polaroid instant film back, which will give more flexibility for shooting instant images. I also have 6×9 and 6×7 (soon) roll film backs, so it will be quite flexible. It is not the easiest, or most ergonomic camera to use, but once I get used to it, I will be using it frequently!
What I Saw
Today’s image is from a few days ago. I was in High Park, waiting for a model to arrive. It felt like one of the last warm days of the fall, and there was a glow to the air that the camera for some reason did not pick up fully. A bit of post work, and I added back what I saw/felt, but the camera didn’t.

Motion
Couldn’t resist, another image of Justine having fun in the leaves at High Park. In addition to her great expression, I love the motion blur on the leaves 🙂

Late Fall
Last Friday I had a vacation day, and the weather cooperated (finally!) for a shoot in High Park. When my subject (model and actor Justine Cargo) saw a huge pile of leaves, she literally made a beeline for it, with me doing my best to keep up 🙂
