Another image from the VOX Toronto Songwriters Circle from last Thursday. As only one of the four songwriters was performing at any given time, it was interesting to watch the interplay and expressions of the other artists when they were not playing.
On Thursday night I had fun shooting the second Vox Toronto Songwriter event at the Cameron House. Four performers were on stage, including Angela Saini, who is the subject of today’s photo. (I had the honour of shooting the cover for her upcoming CD, stay tuned!).
It was a challenging shoot: the room was very dim, and I had to set my Nikon D90 to ISO 3200, and then underexpose a stop, to have a chance at shooting handheld, without a flash. Even then, it was a good thing that I shoot hundreds of image, as many many frames were just too blurred to use.
An interesting passenger on the TTC: a very thoughtful expression.
I’ve said on more than one occasion that actors, musicians and other artists are a lot of fun to shoot: they bring their creativity and imagination and together we create stories. This past weekend I had the pleasure of working with singer Nicole Faye, and one of the looks we created was a vintage portrait where Nicole was able to project the style and mood required to make that kind of portrait work.

I had a lot of fun (except for balky flash triggers!) yesterday in a photo shoot with Kira Hall, a talented Toronto actress. She did an amazing job with hair, make-up and wardrobe, and as an actress, she was able to provide great expressions!
Today’s image is another example of starting with the negative from a Fuji FP3000B instant print, with some post work and toning. The model Luna is a graphic arts student. I love working with artists, actors, musicians etc. They get it! 🙂

Another product of the bybrid workflow today: this image was captured last weekend with a Nikon F2 body, 24mm f2.8 lens, on Fomapan 100 developed in TMax developer. I then scanned the negative, and added some glow using Nik software in post. The look I was going for was being in a dream.
