The Sound of Ice

One more of the Ice in the beaches yesterday. One of the most interesting things was the sound the water made hitting the ice covered rocks. A very distinctive sound!

Experiment in Colour

It has been Β a while since I last tried hand colouring. I took a different approach this time: rather than using Marshall photo oils on a darkroom print, I tried a matte photo paper inkjet print, Β and pencil crayons. Some further work will be needed to see what works and what doesn’t.

Another View of the Railway Bridge

Here is another view of the railway bridge on the old CP line in the lower Don Valley, taken yesterday. I will definitely have to go back with colour film in the near future!

Last Dance

I was going to call this post “Break-up Sex” but that was too much like click-bait. In order to finance getting a Hasselblad kit, I am thinning the herd and one of the kits being moved was was Mamiya Pro TL 645. I took it out for one last time on Sunday and shot a couple of rolls, and now it is sold and gone. Mixed emotions but I want that Hasselblad!

Texture and Sharpness

This image is from a visit to High Park in the fall of 2015. The combination of the Rollei RPX 25 film, Rodinal developer and the Zeiss Sonnar 50mm/1.5 lens mounted on my Contax IIIa made for very good sharpness, I love these slow speed films! (I left the sprockets etc. in the scan because I liked the way it looks πŸ™‚ ).

In Memoriam

A few years ago I did a photoshoot with model Sarah D. who was recovering from a double lung transplant that she had due to Cystic Fibrosis. I was impressed by her strength and depth of character. I just found out that she has passed away, waiting for a second transplant, after the first failed. Feeling sad. The posts are below (NSFW due to partial nudity)

The First Day of the Year

I have made it a tradition the last few years to go out camera in hand on the morning of January 1st, regardless of the weather. This year was grey and cool for most of the day, but I still went down to the Beaches in the morning, with my Nikon F2 and three lenses. This image was taken with my 50mm/1.4 lens, on TMax 400 film.

2016 Jan 2 meetup018

The F2 is one of my cameras that doesn’t get used as much as it should as, and I have more than a couple of cameras in that category, so one of my photography goals for 2016 is, no buying of cameras or lenses (repair/replacement excepted, as needed)! Time to use more of what I have.

Surreal

The bus stop where I catch the bus to work every day is in front of an apartment building, and sometimes discarded furniture is found in the general area. For the last few days this old vinyl chair has been sitting at the stop, almost inviting people to have a seat waiting for the bus. This morning at 5:45 am it was covered in frost.
