A Very Warm Morning

A very warm morning on the Boardwalk this morning. I ran into some technical challenges, but managed to get a couple of shots I liked.

Getting the Filter Right

I’ve always wanted to get a dramatic sky photo, and finally I’ve found the combination! Rollei Retro 80s film, plus a 25A red filter and Polarizing filter stacked together. I took this with my Mamiya RZ67 and 65mm lens early on a Sunday morning at the Beaches, with the sun at a right angle, for maximum polarizing effect.

Experimentation

Yesterday was a bright sunny day, and I probably should have known better than to go out with Eastman SO-331, a special purpose duplicating film with almost impossible to control contrast. Amidst the soot and whitewash I did get an image that turned out OK, and the fact that this film stock has no anti-halation layer made for some interesting glow effects.

Trying Out Rollei RPX 25

Last weekend I tried my first roll of Rollei RPX 25, a slow, fine grained film. I shot the roll on my Rolleiflex 3.5E3 and I developed the film using Rodinal 1+50 for 14 minutes @ 20 C. High contrast is often a challenge with these slow films, and although the negatives looked contrasty to the eye, I was able to coax good highlight and shadow detail out of them. I will be using this film again!!

Setting Up for a Hot Day

It was about 9 am this past Sunday at the Beaches, with the promise of a very hot day already playing out. The Beach Volleyball players were already beginning to appear.

A Man And His Dog

Shooting with a very wide angle lens, it can be difficult to keep people out of the frame sometimes, so you go with the flow, and in this image from the Beaches this past Sunday, as it turned out I quite liking having the man and his dog in the image.

Fragile Beauty

One of my images from this past Sunday morning at the Beaches. What I remember about this shot is that I had to spend some time before clearing the litter out of frame. People can be such pigs 😦

Bike Posts

Another image from my Olympus F 35mm half frame and my trip to Harbourfront in Toronto this past weekend. I’ve always found these bike locks interesting, especially if one is a bit bent, like me 🙂

Getting Reaquainted

It has been a while, but I decided to get out my Olympus Pen F 35mm half-frame SLR last week. Since my recent back injury, I have to be careful about carrying heavy gear for extended periods, so going out with one lens and one compact camera is a joy. :-). Using a fine grain film such as Rollei Retro 80s means I am not sacrificing much by using a smaller format negative.

Taylor Creek Park (close to home in Toronto) is so lovely on an early summer evening 🙂
