This post is a series of images taken in Toronto a couple of weeks back in the mid-late afternoon. I love the sun when it is at a low angle; it imposes a sense of drama on downtown buildings. All images taken with my Rolleiflex 3.5E3 on Ilford HP5+ film, developed in LegacyPro MicX developer.
Back to fall colours in Toronto, although what struck me about this scene was the monochromatic tree branches looking almost metallic against a background of colour.

This is the last image from my series of images taken at the Beaches in Toronto with my Mamiya RZ67 and red/polarizing filters. The film used for this image was Rollei Retro 80s.
The Michael Lee-Chin Crystal expansion of the Royal Ontario Museum was always controversial: a lot of people absolutely hated the look of this addition to a more traditional structure. From a photographic point of view though it offers a lot of possibilities. In this image (from the Open Streets event last weekend) I used my Voigtlander 15mm/4.5 SuperWide Heliar lens. This lens is among the wider in the 35mm format, and I like what it does with the already dramatic angles of this structure.

According to the calendar, we have a few more days of summer left, but the end of the season is near. I was at the Beaches last night, and the weather was lovely, the atmosphere peaceful, but to me tinged with a wistfulness, an awareness of the passing of time.

The early morning on a sunny day is the best time to see the cliffs at the Scarborough Bluffs; the light colour really picks up the sunlight, and using a red filter darkens the sky to produce a dramatic contrast.

Post number three on the Beach at Bluffer’s Park; using a red filter darkened the skies and made the already dramatic light of early morning even more stark. All three images were taken with my Hasselblad 500C/M, 80mm/2.8 Planar lens on Rollei RPX25 film, developed in Rodinal.
Yesterday morning I went out early to the beach in Bluffer’s Park in Scarborough, Ontario. I was shooting on a low speed film (Rollei RPX 25), so everything was on a tripod with slow shutter speeds. The combination of the slow shutter speed and a decent onshore breeze (making for active waves) made for an interesting effect on the water.

I tend to not do a lot of night photography, and I really have to change that! It is a real gap in my work. I did do a night shoot the other evening with fellow photographer friend Bill Smith: I love the night time look of the Murphy’s Law pub in Toronto at Queen St / Kingston Road. We set up our cameras on tripods across the street an shot during gaps in the traffic.
