Here is another image from the belly dancing in Kensington Market recently. This image is of a dancer Audra of the Dark Side Studio) waiting in wings for her groups turn to perform. I was struck by how the various groups enjoyed each others performances, in a supportive atmosphere.

Yesterday afternoon I was shooting in Kensington Market again. The streets were closed to all vehicular traffic, making for a great atmosphere. A belly dancing show was taking place, surrounded by photographers, as in the image below. Sometimes it’s as much fun to watch the audience!

Over the last few years I’ve noticed more and more “human statues” at Yonge and Dundas in downtown Toronto. I’d say this is a pretty tough way to make a living: it requires a lot of concentration, and I am sure some passersby will do their best to break their pose.

I thought this citizen of Toronto had an interesting look, and the Nikon 105mm/2.5 allowed for just the right degree of isolation in the framing.
The last few days I have been trying my Nikkor 85/1.8 lens on my Nikon F2 for street shooting, and I am really liking the this focal length; so many images just seem to present themselves, like today’s image of a dog owner coming back to collect his dog. (I was originally trying to get a shot of the dog alone, but the owner came back just as I was about to shoot).

Another shot from my extended photo walk last Saturday. The man was selling something (some kind of spirituality perhaps), and actually had gotten someone to stop and listen.

I was out shooting yesterday, with a Nikon F and F2 in downtown Toronto. I’m a sucker for these geometric-based compositions!
It’s been a chilly weekend (by Toronto standards) by that hasn’t gotten in the way of doing some street photography. I saw this man carry a fair sized dog, and managed to pop off a quick image.

Another Hipstamatic on the subway. I recommend click on the photo to go to flickr, then view the large size, and see his eyes. They are either looking at me, or through me. I’m not quite sure.
As an ex-smoker I have to feel some sympathy for people who still smoke. I took this picture yesterday in downtown Toronto outside the Eaton Centre. Was he hiding from the wind, or the no smoking sign he was so close to?
