Fall Colours

The fall colours in High Park, with leaves rustling in the breeze were a perfect backdrop yesterday for a photo shoot with Angela Saini, a  very talented Toronto area singer/songwriter/guitarist, for whom I was privileged some time ago to do my first album cover for her recording “Leap”  (Great album by the way!!).

Working with creative people such as musicians, writers, actors, dancers and artists is always very rewarding, and it’s no exception with Angela; I always see the songwriter’s spirit in images of her.

The image below is digital, but I also shot some black and white film; I can’t wait to get it developed!

I had the pleasure of working with Sabrina, (the daughter of a theatre friend of mine) on Thursday. As someone with both dance and theatre experience, Sabrina was a natural when it came to posing and expression, and needed next to no instruction.

I had the chance yesterday to meet another local Toronto photographer Edward McLaughlin for a portrait shoot, using my Rolleiflex. It was a very dull day weatherwise, so I shot Tri-X at 800 and developed in in Diafine

I don’t often get a chance to photograph children, so it was fun recently to get a few images of the younger son of a good photographer friend of mine. He likes to move around a lot, so the manual focus was a challenge!

Holly I: Personality

I had the fun of working with a new model named Holly earlier this week, doing a retro pin-up genre shoot. The key ingredients for pin-up are personality, personality and personality! 🙂 And Holly had all three, a great sense of humour and a true understanding of the pin-up genre on her part made for a fun, productive shoot!

Grace III: The Dance Never Ends

The final post from my shoot with Grace was made with my Rolleicord Va Twin Lens Reflex Grace shows a dancer’s grace, and in a sense my old Rollei is part of another dance — over fifty years old and still going strong; its dance never ends either. 🙂

Grace II: Character

In this post, while Grace is amazing in showing character in her posing/expression, I am actually going to talk about the character of a film I have tried for the first time: Svema Foto 200 film, made in the Ukraine, and available from The Film Photography Project. What I like about this film is the grain structure: it’s not fine grain, but it is organic, it just feels right, and it has a lovely tonality! Now if I could only get it in 100 foot bulk rolls!
