Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day

Sunday, April 28th was Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day. It was a brilliantly sunny (if cold) day, and to celebrate some of the local film community met up in Burlington for a photowalk. Using the same 120 format pinhole camera I got recently I got the same unpredictable results. Pinhole photography in my opinion is a state of mind as much as it is a specific kind of gear.

Stairs in the Gloom

Another pinhole image today; it was a gloomy day in Taylor Creek Park when I shot this, and a ten second exposure was required.

Pinhole Day Preparation

I recently bought a medium format (6×6) pinhole camera with the equivalent of a 30mm f150 lens, in preparation for World Pinhole photography Day on April 28th. I shot a test roll and I’m happy to report its working well.

Through a Pinhole #2: In Colour

My exploration of pinhole photography continues. This time I put a roll film adapter on the back of my Speed Graphic 4×5 and shot in colour using Kodak Portra 400 film. The subject is the bridge which spans Taylor Creek Park. Exposures were about 1 minute long.

Through a Pinhole

On the two latest episodes of My Photography Podcast I had the pleasure of speaking with pinhole photographers Kathrena Revera and Moni Smith. Their passion for their craft and their amazing work inspired me to finally try pinhole photography. I am using my 4×5 Speed Graphic camera, with a 0.3mm pinhole in place of a lens, and though I am still at the experimental “dialing it in” phase of my work I am excited with the results. Both images below were shot on Fomapan 100 film. The exposure for the first image was 6.5 minutes, the second 1 minute, 15 seconds.
