Not About the Image

It was an intense week at work here in Calgary, to put it mildly. Since I am staying over and working again here next week, my original plan this morning was to go to downtown Calgary and do some street / architecture photography. At the last minute I changed my mind and went for a return visit to Fish Creek Provincial Park, and that was the right decision: a beautiful morning in a quiet park, the only sounds being the birds and the flowing water. Yes I took some photos (Hipstamatic here, film to follow when I get back home) but that didn’t seem to be the point this morning. Relaxing and decompressing was.

Geometry in Color

Out with friends last evening in Calgary, on the way to see a movie, and I noticed the geometric scene below. I had to act quickly before a number of people came into frame.

Posting Daily

I am out in Calgary again this week, and am shooting some film photography but of course without access to my darkroom it’s hard to post those images just yet, so I am trying to keep the daily posting discipline going with some smartphone/Hipstamatic images, such as today’s image taken outside my Calgary office early on a bright sunny day.

Riverdale

My piano teacher is located not too far away from me in Riverdale: a neighbourhood in Toronto that I find visually fascinating every time I head out for my lessons. I took these images the other evening with the Hipstamatic app on my iPhone.

Just Be Cooking

On Monday night I was shooting my good friend Maria Rozynska as she taught a group class in how to make perogies for her new Just Be Cooking business. I know Maria from musical theatre and we both agreed that leading a class like this is like putting on a performance, and she did a fine job!

Contrast

I don’t do a lot of flower photography, but when I went to Allan Gardens last weekend in addition to my film gear  I brought my Nikon D7100 DSLR with my 55mm/3.5 Micro-Nikkor lens. What stuck me about this scene was the contrast between the beauty of the flowers and the grimy background.

Through the Window

The first of likely a few posts from Whistler (once I develop my film this weekend). I was at a meeting this past week in Whistler, B.C.  I had an amazing view from my hotel window, and took more than a couple of images at various times of today in various lighting conditions. Winter light to my eyes often has a pewter-like tone, like it did when I took this image.

Bridge At Night

I had a few minutes to spare before my first piano lesson last evening, and this bridge was in the neighbourhood. so I took a few quick shots with my iPhone and the Hipstamatic app. I’ll need to come back another evening with a film camera.
