Back to Banff

I have just returned from a two week work trip in Alberta, and I did have one weekend for photography, so it was up to Banff on Saturday. The day was brilliant, clear and cold.

The First Day of the Year

I have made it a tradition the last few years to go out camera in hand on the morning of January 1st, regardless of the weather. This year was grey and cool for most of the day, but I still went down to the Beaches in the morning, with my Nikon F2 and three lenses. This image was taken with my 50mm/1.4 lens, on TMax 400 film.

2016 Jan 2 meetup018

The F2 is one of my cameras that doesn’t get used as much as it should as, and I have more than a couple of cameras in that category, so one of my photography goals for 2016 is, no buying of cameras or lenses (repair/replacement excepted, as needed)! Time to use more of what I have.

Last Post for 2015

It’s been an interesting year: my photography exhibit and the trip to Scotland were amazing highlights; the back problems not so much. For my last image of the year, I go back to the Beaches for an image created this past summer. Tomorrow it’s January 1st, so in the morning I will be going out somewhere to do some photography, as this has become my New Year’s Day tradition. Happy New Year!

Forgotten Film

If you shoot film for long enough, you end up with old exposed rolls of film, and you have no idea what’s on them. I developed such a role this week, and it turns out to be from Thanksgiving, 2014. We were stating in Smith Falls, Ontario, and I went out early one morning down by the canal. It was chilly, and steam was rising from the water as the sun came up.

Fellow Photographer

I had a fun portrait session this past Saturday with fellow Toronto-area photographer Philip Elliot. There is just something about shooting portraits with a Rolleiflex, and the square format. (Film used was Kodak Tri-X, developed in Xtol 1+1 for 9 minutes @ 20 C)

StandOff With a Squirrel

I only had a 50mm normal lens; I knew it and the squirrel knew it, and I couldn’t get closer without the squirrel scurrying off. I think the squirrel was silently chuckling.

Like a Mirror

Back to High Park, with the Carl Zeiss Jena 50mm/2.8 lens mounted on an old Spotmatic. The water was very still that chilly morning. Shot on Kodak Tmax 400.
