Only in Colour

Today I’m posting one more image from Bluffer’s Beach on January 1st, 2017. It was originally shot in black and white (the only film I had with me), but the image really didn’t work that way, so I added so hand tinting with pencil crayons to a inkjet print.

January 2nd, around 7:50 am. Rather chilly at the Beaches.

By the Shore

Going back to Bluffer’s Park Beach on January 1st. I was drawn by the reflections on the water further ashore, left by larger waves.

Low Sun

Another image from my January 1st outing to Bluffer’s Park Beach. The sun was low in the sky at this moment.

A New Year

For a few years now I have made it my own little ritual to go out for a shoot on the morning of January 1st. That way, no matter what else happens, I can say the new year is another year in which I have some at least some photography. 🙂 This morning I went to Bluffer’s Park Beach in Toronto. A shore symbolizes time to me: the waves and water are eternal, and the shore is always changing.

Night Visions

One of my goals for 2017 is to do more night photography so last night I went with my good friend Bill Smith down to the Beaches to try shooting a test roll of Rollei RPX100, to determine the best exposure. My favourite image is this one, shot with my Hasselblad 500C/M and 50mm/4 Distagon lens. The exposure time was 15 seconds @ f8.

Musical Lines

I had been planning to post this image of the Edward Johnson building (Faculty of Music, University of Toronto), and while I was getting it ready this morning it struck me that the lines of shadow cast by the railings looked like a musical staff turned on its side.

On Christmas Eve

This past Thursday I went early before choir practice to St. Thomas’s Anglican Church in Toronto. The sanctuary was silent, decorated for Christmas to come. A feeling of expectancy was in the air. Tonight at 11 pm the sanctuary will be full, the candles will be lit, the music sung. Merry Christmas to all.
